Sam Guthrie is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in Maryland. He offers a compassionate, evidence-based, and person-centered approach tailored to each client’s needs. Sam believes a strong, trusting therapeutic relationship is at the heart of meaningful change. He works to understand each client’s strengths, interests, and challenges, and to create a space where clients feel safe, supported, and respected as they work toward their goals.

Sam works with adolescents, adults, and families. He has a particular interest in helping adolescents and young adults navigate life transitions, depression, anxiety, justice involvement, and emotional dysregulation. In session, he uses Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), strengths-based approaches, and mindfulness. He is especially drawn to helping clients find meaning and purpose and build a stronger connection to their communities.

Sam earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Sociology from the University of North Carolina Wilmington and a Master of Social Work from Saint Louis University. He has provided mental health, substance use, and case management services to youth and adults. After living and working in several states, he is grateful to return to his roots and serve individuals and families in Carroll County and surrounding communities.
