Mavis Xu is a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) in Maryland who is passionate about helping individuals navigate life’s challenges with compassion, curiosity, and hope. She creates a safe, supportive space where clients feel truly heard, understood, and empowered to heal, grow, and thrive.

Mavis earned her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Johns Hopkins University and her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from The University of Texas at Austin. Through her clinical training, she has worked with adolescents, young adults, and adults addressing a wide range of concerns, including trauma, relationship difficulties, life transitions, mood disorders, anger management, and personal growth.

Her therapeutic approach is person-centered and eclectic, integrating evidence-based practices while tailoring treatment to each client’s unique needs and goals. Mavis believes meaningful change starts with feeling deeply understood. She listens attentively, reflects thoughtfully, and helps clients uncover patterns, strengths, and insights that support lasting growth. Her style is gentle, warm, and collaborative, honoring each client’s pace and comfort.

As a bilingual therapist, Mavis offers services in both English and Mandarin Chinese. She is culturally sensitive and committed to creating an inclusive, non-judgmental environment where clients from diverse backgrounds can explore their experiences safely.
